YUBA CITY, Calif. — November 4, 2026. Residents searching for November 3 Yuba City Council election results will not find a vote tally for the three scheduled district contests. The city appointed the three unopposed nominees in August and withdrew those municipal council races from the November election.

Who was appointed?

The city’s public election notice confirms that the Yuba City Council held a special meeting on August 20, 2026 and unanimously appointed the only candidates who filed for the three district seats: Dave Shaw in District 1, Marc Boomgaarden in District 2, and Mike Pasquale in District 3. A published notice signed by City Clerk Ciara Wakefield on August 27 states that the appointed nominees will serve as though elected at the municipal election.

Why the city did not hold a vote for those seats

Under California Elections Code Section 10229, when only one eligible person is nominated for an office, a city governing body may appoint that person rather than conduct a contested election, subject to the applicable statutory process. The August meeting followed certification from Sutter County’s election official that the races were uncontested.

Local reporting on the August decision says the city expected to avoid election-administration costs of at least $36,000; a budget estimate for the election had been approximately $50,000. These are reported estimates, not a new November cost audit.

What November 3 voters still decided

The cancellation applied to the three Yuba City Council races, not the entire general election. Yuba City residents could still participate in statewide, federal, county and school district elections as applicable to their ballots. The Sutter County Elections Office provides official November election materials and returns.

California58’s coverage of local government will therefore track the appointments and the incoming council, rather than inventing a result of a contest that did not take place.
