YUBA CITY, Sutter County — October 23, 2026. A routine question about a water bill and a major leak flooding a road are not the same city-service request. The Yuba City Public Works Utilities Division publishes different contacts for water and wastewater operations, customer account questions and urgent after-hours incidents. Knowing which service to use may help residents reach the right personnel faster.

After-hours emergencies

The city directs people experiencing a major water leak or sewer service backup after regular hours to the Yuba City Police Department dispatch center at 530-822-4661, asking for the Public Works on-call employee. Residents should not use an ordinary email inquiry or wait for the next City Council meeting if a service problem requires prompt response. Emergencies involving immediate danger to people should be reported through 911.

What about ordinary repairs and water waste?

The Public Works page lists 530-822-4626 for utilities assistance and directs residents to the yc311 online request system and app for local service reports. When making a request, record the precise location, nearby cross street, nature of the issue and whether water is running onto a roadway. Take photographs only when safe to do so, and keep the request number for follow-up.

Is water conservation still mandatory?

The municipal utility webpage includes an announcement dated April 18, 2023, when the City Council reduced water-shortage rules from Stage 3 severe shortage to Stage 1 water alert, lifting that period’s mandatory conservation targets. This is a dated announcement, not independent verification of which emergency stage currently applies in October 2026. For today’s restrictions, contact Public Works or look up the current Water Shortage Contingency Plan and council decisions. The webpage also lists examples of water waste — excessive watering into gutters, failing to repair leaks and use of an open hose without a shutoff nozzle.

Who handles water or sewer bills?

For starting or stopping municipal water and sewer service, or questions about a utility account, the city directs customers to its Finance Department at 530-822-4618. The city also offers an online bill-pay portal. Billing questions are not normally handled by the emergency dispatch center. Accounts can contain sensitive personal information; share records only through official secure channels.

Who operates the system?

Yuba City operates municipal drinking-water treatment and distribution and wastewater treatment through Public Works divisions, supported by engineering, laboratory and maintenance teams. If a property is on a separate service provider or has a special septic arrangement, residents should first verify their actual provider. The city page gives separate information for the Stonegate STEP sewer service system.
